Frequently Asked Questions

Let’s start with the big question shall we? What actually is yoga? Yoga is rooted in the ancient wisdom and spiritual traditions of India - the first evidence of it dates back to around 5000 years ago. What started as a holistic practice, with teachings on daily life, mantras and storytelling, eventually developed to incorporate a physical practice that is more familiar today. At its core, meditation, breath control and the way we treat ourselves and the world around us are just as important as the asanas (physical postures). Although my classes are predominantly physical, it’s important to me that we honour the other elements of yoga too. That - to me - is authentic yoga.

I blend elements of Vinyasa (moving fluidly), with elements of Hatha (finding stillness). My classes also incorporate meditation, breathwork, and my love of storytelling to include Indian mythology, poetry and folklore.

My weekly classes are held at Yomi, an independently run studio nestled in the heart of the Leicestershire countryside, just 5 minutes from Market Harborough.

Anything you feel comfortable in! Loose and stretchy clothes work best, with layers you can easily add when we get cosy in savasana.
-
Absolutely! We all start somewhere. Nothing is compulsory in my classes and I aim to make them as accessible to beginners as possible.
-
A reusable water bottle and an open mind! I supply all the mats, blocks and bolsters, but if you have a favourite yoga mat you want to bring along, please do.

It’s a popular misconception that only flexible people can do yoga. You don’t have to be able to touch your toes, or do big backbends to have a yoga practice. What is important is listening to your body and the sensations you feel during each pose. If you want to improve your flexibility, then you’re in the right place. But, if your priority is simply switching off and focusing on your breath, then that’s ok too.

Usually the answer is yes, although there is no ‘one size fits all’ with yoga and every body is different. If you have an injury, it’s important to first get the all-clear to practice yoga from a doctor or physio.
If you have any questions or concerns, chat to me at the start of class and I’ll do my best to modify poses for you.
